Calling all entrepreneurs: the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation is hosting a Business Pitch Competition. The contest is open to anyone 18 years or older who is proposing a new venture, looking to grow an existing firm or seeking to buy a company.

The deadline to submit a pitch is Friday, August 9 at 4:30 p.m. To apply, or for more information, visit www.themillworks.ca/en/stay-connected/news-events/bridges-to-better-business/2019/.

A committee will rank the submissions and select five entrepreneurs to move onto the next round. Those individuals will have until Monday, September 2 to submit a one-minute pitch video and comprehensive business plan. After that, the videos will be posted to social media, and a public voting and plan scoring process will commence. From there, two finalists will be selected based on their comprehensive score.

The finalists will square off at 2019 Bridges to Better Business on Thursday, October 24. This annual event is hosted by the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation. The forum will feature a pitch-off, and the two finalists will be scored by a panel of judges and audience voting.

In previous years, the Pitch Competition grand prize was valued at more than $15,000, which included a grant, professional business services, cash and other enterprise offerings. Organizers are working to provide a similar prize pool for the 2019 competition. The Pitch Competition and Bridges to Better Business event are being facilitated by the team at the Millworks – Centre for Entrepreneurship. Located at the Machine Shop, the facility is an initiative of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation. The site is home to the organization’s small business support staff and a business incubator. For more information, visit www.themillworks.ca.
