Conservatives still not standing up for Sault Ste. Marie

August 30, 2019 – Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario – Today, Erin O’Toole will be visiting Sault Ste. Marie. I want to welcome him here by reminding him of the harm that his party tried to inflict on our community, from urging our government to capitulate during NAFTA negotiations to voting against raising the Canada Child Benefit.

Let’s take a quick look at Mr. O’Toole’s track record:

  • Voting against funding for Parks Canada, Public Health Agency of Canada, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Canadian Human Rights Commission – to name a few.
  • Urging our government to capitulate to Donald Trump when we stood our ground against his unfair and unjustified steel tariffs.
  • Personally attempting to stall our government from implementing steel safeguards.
  • Voting against our 2019 Budget, which made important changes like improving our trade regime, made new funding for broadband internet, and making sure seniors keep more of their Old Age Security and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

And let’s not forget his recent trouble with Elections Canada, which saw him refund $30,000 from one of his fundraisers.

Conservatives have never had our back in Northern Ontario. Whether in Ottawa or at Queen’s Park, we know what Conservatives do – they work to protect their wealthy friends while cutting services that our community relies on.
