Safety zone set up for Traverse City Ironman Triathlon

The Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP), Sault Sainte Marie, established a temporary safety zone in the navigable waters of the Southern West Arm of Grand Traverse Bay, MI, to protect the safety of life and property during the Traverse City Ironman Triathlon on August 25, 2019, from 6:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

The temporary safety zone is established by 33 CFR 165.T09-0577 which states that entry into, transiting, or anchoring within the defined area is prohibited unless authorized by the Captain of the Port, Sault Sainte Marie or his on-scene representative. This temporary safety zone is closed to all vessel traffic, except as may be permitted by the Captain of the Port, Sault Sainte Marie or his on-scene representative. The Captain of the Port, Sault Sainte Marie or his on-scene representative may be contacted via VHF Channel 16.
