Enhancements to the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation’s industrial park will pave the way for new businesses to establish roots in the city. A Government of Canada investment of $1.8 million will enable the corporation to upgrade and extend services at its industrial park. Specifically, the FedNor funding will assist with water, sewer and electrical infrastructure improvements. The expansion is required to support the growth of the park, which in turn, will improve the airport’s overall sustainability.
Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor.
“I’m proud to be part of a government that is investing in initiatives that help communities capitalize on opportunities for business development and expansion. By funding the extension of services at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport industrial park, we are helping to open the door to lucrative opportunities. This project is another great example of how the Prosperity and Growth Strategy for Northern Ontario is helping Northern Ontario communities and entrepreneurs succeed in the modern economy.” said,–Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie
With its water and sewer infrastructure at capacity, the park upgrades are required to support business growth. Two new lease agreements, as well as a business expansion project are contingent upon the upgraded site services. The identified business development opportunities are expected to create more than 100 full-time jobs in the short- to medium-term.
“We’re excited that the Government of Canada, through FedNor, is helping us realize our growth plan. Today’s announcement will allow us to capitalize on opportunities from interested commercial tenants that will bring more than 100 jobs to the Sault Ste. Marie area. In addition, the upgraded services will assist us in filling several remaining industrial and commercial spaces in the park that are aviation compatible.” said, Jerry Dolcetti, Chair, Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation
“Our government is investing in community economic infrastructure enhancements to stimulate business investment and growth. Today’s announcement will allow the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation to expand and meet the demands of commercial operators. And more importantly, the infrastructure improvements will lead to the creation of good jobs for middle-class Canadians.” said, Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor
