TORONTO — The leader of Canada’s federal Conservatives is distancing himself from comments made by a woman filmed shouting racist slurs and spitting on a man in Toronto.
Andrew Scheer says the woman, caught on film holding a sign of support for him, used “hateful language” that has no place in the party or the country.
A clip posted to Reddit shows a woman yelling at a man outside Toronto City Hall on Monday.
It shows her shouting that Canada is a place for men rather than savages and telling the man he doesn’t belong here.
Toronto police say the woman was arrested shortly afterward and charged with assault after she was filmed spitting on the man.
Police also allege she assaulted three officers while in custody and is also facing three counts of assaulting a peace officer.
