GUELPH, Ont. — Police in Guelph, Ont., are reporting a “catch and release.”
They say an officer gave a new fishing rod to an 11-year-old boy who skipped school to go fishing earlier this week.
Officers found the boy at his favourite fishing hole on Monday — “shirtless, soaked, smiling and holding a huge fish,” according to a police statement.
Unfortunately, in the process of reeling in the lunker, the boy had broken the rod he had received as a birthday present in July.
Police say they brought the boy home, then went to a local fishing supply store, which donated a new rod and reel for the young angler.
They say they never condone truancy, but they’re happy the boy will get to keep doing what he loves.
