Man Charged After Trying To Kill Raccoon With Pitchfork


On September 12, 2019, at approximately 11:00 a.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service on Mississauga Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

The complainant reported that they heard screaming coming from her neighbour’s backyard. When they looked to see what was going on, they observed their neighbour trying to kill a racoon in a trap with a pitch fork and a pail of water.

After investigation, police arrested and charged the male.

Leslie (Les) HARPER, 83 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Cruelty to Animals – Unnecessary pain, suffering or injury, contrary to section 445.1(1)(a)of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court in Elliot Lake, Ontario on October 29, 2019.

      I have met many living in the county and they don’t bother me and I don’t bother them !
      If you condone the torture of innocent animals then you should NEVER MOVE TO THE COUNTRY as ppl out here respect our wildlife
      This man should live in a high-rise apartment in the city where he won’t be bothered by nature !!!!!
