Sara McCleary, the NDP Candidate for Sault Ste. Marie, will be holding a meet and greet event in Batchewana First Nation at the Batchewana Elders Complex from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 26.
Sara is looking forward to meeting with members of the community and discussing issues that are important to them. Sara also wants to engage with people regarding what they’re hoping to see from the federal government to continue on the path of reconciliation and discuss the NDP’s proposition to work with Indigenous Peoples to co-develop a National Action Plan for Reconciliation, drawing directly from the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
“Governments can’t pick and choose which Indigenous rights to uphold. It’s time for a new nation to nation relationship.” said McCleary. “We’re committed to a true nation-to-nation relationship; reconciliation, recognition of Indigenous rights, and equal funding. As your MP, I will fight to ensure Indigenous communities can have safe housing, access to healthcare and quality education.”
