Volunteers in smile cookie costumes were at Tim Hortons’ around the city Monday morning as part of The Tim Hortons Annual Smile Cookie Campaign kickoff.
This nation-wide campaign, which runs from Sept. 16-22, 2019, raises money for local charities through the sale of chocolate chunk smile cookies. Each of these cookies costs $1, and all proceeds raised go to the charities of choice. In the Sault, those charities are ARCH Hospice and The Twinkie Foundation for the second year in a row.
“We’re very grateful,” Karen Lafave, Executive Director for the Twinkie Foundation, told SaultOnline at the campaign kickoff at Tim Hortons on Great Northern Rd.
“We’re so new, (so) the exposure for us is great for this, a lot of people obviously know who ARCH is, they’re fantastic, but not very many people know who The Twinkie Foundation is, so for Tim Hortons to choose us for this, in line with ARCH is wonderful…it’s helping two great causes.”
ARCH Hospice Marketing and Events Coordinator Bree Bennett mirrored Lafave’s sentiments, talking about how much it means to ARCH to have the support of the community.
“It’s important to see that the community can come together and buy something as small as a smile cookie, and it just supports us in so many different ways to provide our services free of charge to the community.”
As part of the campaign locally, ARCH and The Twinkie Foundation are also running a contest on social media, where anyone who posts a photo of their smile cookie with the hashtag #SmileCookie and tags both charities gets entered to win one of two $100 Tim Hortons gift cards.
Last year was a record year for Tim Hortons nation-wide and in the Sault, raising close to $41,000 for ARCH and The Twinkie Foundation.
