~May 29, 1932 – October 17, 2019~ Passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital.

Mercedes (nee Delle Vedove) was a devoted wife to the late Luciano and a loving mother to Mary-Lou (Mark Stevenson), Edward of London (Lorene McCready) and Randy of Burlington (Amy Hutchison). She loved her grandchildren unconditionally: Devin, Margo (Raj Modh) and Maia Stevenson, Dillon and Luke Morassut and Madeleine, Gabriel and Nathaniel Morassut.

Cherished sister of the late Primo (Vanda), the late Lindo (late Maria) and Gino (Laura). Sister-in-law of the late Piero, the late Elio (late Elena), Dina Florean (late Marco), Bruna Moro (late Luigi) and the late Sergio (Val). Mercedes’ warmth and quirky sense of humour will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy and Australia.

Our mom was born in Giai di Gruaro, Italy and arrived in Halifax on the 20th of January 1954 aboard the Roma. She loved her new country Canada, especially our winters, as well as the opportunities it brought to her family.

Mercedes was passionate about flowers, known for her green thumb, and enjoyed playing cards with her friends. She loved to cook and welcomed everyone to her table. Her family remembers many rambunctious times with family and friends at home and at camp on Goulais Bay. Before she was filled with arthritic pain, Mercedes was always smiling and making people laugh.

The family would like to acknowledge the caring staff at Collegiate Heights, the F.J. Davey Home (Cedar Grove 1) and the SAH, as well as Theresa Barsanti whose affection and warmth were much appreciated.

Family and friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E 705-759-2522) on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 from 10 am – 12 pm. Funeral Mass will follow at St. Gregory’s Church at 1:00 pm, Rev. Trevor Scarfone officiating. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Memorial donations (payable by cheque) to F.J. Davey Home Foundation or ARCH would be appreciated.
