Maitland Ford Lincoln and some of the WE recognized schools (St. Basil, St. Mary’s College, St. Paul, Holy Family, St. Mary’s French Immersion and Sault College) are kicking off the 5th consecutive year of WE Scare Hunger by inviting Mayor Provenzano to make his donation to help support the WE Scare Hunger campaign this Wednesday at 1:00pm in the presence of the Maitland staff and WE students/teachers involved in the month long initiative.

The WE Scare Hunger team is also submitted  a proclamation to the city of Sault Ste. Marie (Oct 7th 2019) to make October We Scare Hunger month is Sault Ste. Marie.

Hunger continues to be an issue worldwide and we understand how difficult it is to end, but with the help of our community and schools, we hope to make an impact locally – ending hunger for as many families as possible right here in Sault Ste. Marie.

The students of the WE schools in Sault Ste. Marie, will be running various activities within their schools to collect non-perishable food items until the end of October.

WE Scare HungerThe Scare Hunger team is asking for the community’s support again this year. Some schools will be taking the incentive to run their own events ranging from a paper bag collection in local neighbourhoods and dress down days to urge the collection of can food items.  Maitland Ford will be calling on local businesses to compete to collect the most non-perishable food items.

Items in high demand include canned meats, peanut butter, cereal, pasta/sauce, canned fruits and vegetables. Other items such as baby food and personal hygiene products are also gladly accepted.

Maitland Ford Lincoln (1124 Great Northern Road) would like to invite the community to drop off non-perishable food items to help fill the “Hunger Wagon” in their showroom.

Residents are also invited to participate in several WE Scare Hunger food drives at Rome’s Independent Grocers (44 Great Northern Road) on Oct. 17th from 4pm – 8pm and Oct 26th 10am-4pm, GFL Memorial Gardens Greyhound Games Oct 19th 6pm – 7pm and Oct 20th 1:00pm – 2pm and Pino’s Get Fresh Foods (219 Trunk Rd.) on Oct. 12th and 26th  from 10am to 4pm.

It’s a huge project which involves the work of many students collecting, sorting and delivering food items to seven local food banks. Maitland Ford Lincoln and the students will load F-150s and the “Hunger Wagon” and deliver the items to St. Vincent’s, The Soup Kitchen, Salvation Army, Pauline’s Place, Women in Crisis, Sault College during the first week of November.

In 2018 over 10,000 items were donated to our local food banks.
