Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment and the Highway Safety Division will be launching Operation Impact (Oct 11 – Oct 14) as we approach Thanksgiving weekend.
Every year, the OPP participates in Operation Impact, an annual road safety campaign that aims to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world. The OPP collaborates with police services across Canada to increase awareness of and compliance on the four behaviours that place drivers, passengers and other road users most at risk.
The “Big Four” consist of the following:
- Impaired operation
- Distracted driving
- Aggressive driving
- Failure to wear seat belts
These behaviours continue to cost lives on our roadways every year. Drivers and passengers must be mindful of the important role they play in changing unsafe driving.
“Together we can help make this Thanksgiving weekend a safe one on our roadways.” – Staff Sergeant Manuela Byrnes
