Algoma Sailing Club Presents 2019 Awards


Seven local sailors were recognized and received sailing awards at the recent Algoma Sailing Club’s Christmas Banquet and Awards Night. The awards presented were for winners of the club’s sailing races, spirit, and special service to the club.

This years trophy recipients are as follows:

Front row left to right.
Chrystal Simona: Richards Landing Race Trophy.
Carol Neave: Spring Series River Race Trophy.
Carole Naslova (ASC Social Committee): Spirit Award

Rear row left to right.
Norm Rippon (ASC Past-Commodore): Club Service Award
Gerry Neave (ASC Treasurer): Season Overall River Race Series Award and the Lake Nicolet, Red Cap Trophy
Gordon Simpson: Fall Series River Race Trophy
Jack Rice (ASC Secretary): Summer Series River Race Trophy. Jack is missing from the photo and Alan McLean (ASC Vice Commodore) is accepting the trophy on his behalf.

The Algoma Sailing Club was founded in 1964 with members constructing their own boats (Y-Flyers, Sabots, Dinghies and Lasers). Currently the Algoma Sailing Club has about 57 members and schedules though out the summer; 21 weekly St Mary’s River races, 4 long distance races, and a week of 5 sailing races from St Josephs Island to Manitoulin Island during the North Channel Race Week in July.

The Algoma Sailing Club continues to promote and teach the skill of sailing with it’s own associate members program and additionally visiting sailing schools.  For more information on the club’s activities, or how to sail, do visit the clubs online website.
