(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On October 28, 2019, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a theft occurrence from the hospital on Spine Road, in the City Elliot Lake, Ontario.
The complainant reported that an employee’s backpack was stolen from the facility. The theft occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. on October 26, 2019 and was captured on camera. The video showed a suspect entering the hospital and going to the security officer area. The suspect then proceeded to steal the backpack and leave the hospital. Police reviewed the video and later identified the suspect.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged on November 15, 2019.
Kurtis LETTS, 29 years of age, of no fixed address was charged with:
- Theft Under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (three counts), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC,
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on January 7, 2020.
