Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis announced a transaction today involving the Sudbury Wolves.

In the deal the Greyhounds receive a conditional 15th Round Selection in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection (Sudbury’s) in exchange for the rights to RW Brett Jacklin.

Jacklin, originally a 10th Round Selection of the Greyhounds in 2016, played two seasons (2017-18 and 2018-19) for the Greyhounds where in 97 games played he tallied 7 goals and 14 assists, good for 21 points.
He was last year’s Humanitarian Award recipient at the club’s year-end banquet.

Most recently, Brett was a member of the Laurentian Voyageurs Hockey Team (OUA) this season where in 19 games played he had 7 goals and 6 assists.

Raftis announced the team completed a deal with the Midwest Division’s Kitchener Rangers today.

The transaction sees the Greyhounds receive a trio of picks in exchange of a third-year defenceman.

Coming to the Greyhounds are a 3rd Round Selection in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection (OTT), 5th Round Selection in 2022 (KIT) and 8th Round in 2020 (KIT).
Kitchener receives left-shooting defenceman, Holden Wale.

Wale, originally a 4th Round pick of the Greyhounds in 2016, is in his third season with the Greyhounds.
In 139 career regular season games played he has 7 goals and 25 assists (32 points).

Following this transaction, the Greyhounds active roster reduces down to 7 defenceman;  Ryan O’Rourke, Jacob LeGuerrier, Billy Constantinou, Robert Calisti, Drew Wawrow, Jacob Holmes and Matthew Halushak.

Raftis announced today a commitment to the Program, as goaltender NICK MALIK, will be joining the club for the remainder the 2019-20 season.

“We are excited to add Nick to our Program today.  We look forward to partnering with Nick in his development as he continues to establish himself as a world class goaltender” stated Raftis.

Originally selected in the 1st Round (50th overall) of the 2019 CHL Import Draft by the Greyhounds, Malik has spent most of this season with HC Frydek-Mistek of the Czech2 league.
Throughout 18 games played he has compiled a 11-7-1- record to go along with a 2.46 GAA and .927 SV%.

Internationally, Nick represented the Czech Republic this past Christmas at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship along with fellow Greyhound Jaromir Pytlik.
One year ago he was a member of his home country’s entry at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.

Malik is a one of the top rated goaltending prospects for the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

“After the World Junior Championship I decided to leave the Czech Republic and join Sault Ste. Marie.  I was in touch with my friend Jaromir Pytlik who told me only positive things about this great club.  It is an honour for me to join this amazing organization” commented Malik.
