SAULT STE MARIE: The 14th Annual Seedy Saturday took place Saturday, February 29, at Sault College. The event took place to get the community excited about the upcoming growing season and educate the public on the importance of seed saving. Seed saving refers to the practice of saving a variety of seeds from reproductive materials to use them in the future. Seed saving was the traditional way that gardens and farms used centuries ago. Suzanne Hanna, Seedy Saturday organizer, describes seed saving as, “It’s a revolutionary act. When you save seeds, it’s a brave thing to do, and its an essential skill that many people have lost.”
On this Seedy Saturday, 40 vendors attended the event, including six seed companies. Northern Wildflowers, Greta’s Organic Gardens, Hawthorn Farm, Sudbury Seeds, Three Forks Farms, and Urban Tomato.
