JONASSON, Wallace “Wayne”

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Wallace ‘Wayne’ Jonasson in High Point, North Carolina on Thursday, February 6th, 2020 in his 79th year.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 54 years Linda (Courtney), his daughter Tracy Gingras (Ray) and their children Sebastien and Courtney, his son Kris (Tammy) and their children Cortnei, Chelsea, Koby and Kadyn as well as his son Eric (Liz) and their boys Sawyer and Jake.

He enjoyed the past couple of months spending time with his two great-grandchildren Remi and Saylor. He was a good friend and brother-in-law of Charlie Courtney (Carol) and their children Sarah and Katie. Wayne was born in Gimli, Manitoba. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1963 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and moved to Sault Ste. Marie where he started his career at Algoma Steel. Shortly thereafter, he began his relentless pursuit of his future wife, who eventually succumbed to him and his red Austin Healey.

He was a loving, patient “Afi” who was very proud and enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren. He looked forward to our family reunions with the intense matches of connect four, arm wrestling, archery, ATV and motorcycle rides, swimming and sneaking away to eat nanaimo bars. Wayne never argued or raised his voice. He listened, discussed and made us feel like he was a great compromiser. It was only later that we realized we were always doing exactly what he wanted us to.

After his retirement in 1998 he was free to pursue his many interests and always kept himself busy. He enjoyed woodworking, was an avid reader and loved learning about new things. Wayne was a loyal Minnesota Vikings fan and loved watching the game with his son-in-law Ray, who kept him well supplied with food and drink.  Wayne happily enjoyed living the past 22 years at his beloved Bluewater home.

As per Wayne’s request, no funeral service will be held.

Memorial contributions to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation or ARCH would be appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
