Hounds Pick Up Valuable Points Against Kingston

6 games. 3 points back.

Each passing game is becoming increasingly more important than the last for the Greyhounds. While a 7-3 win on Friday in Sudbury is huge, the team needed two points Saturday night as Shane Wright’s Kingston Frontenacs visited town for their lone stop of the season.

The Hounds managed to pull out the 5-3 win as Zack Trott posted two goals to lead the Hounds to victory.

The Frontenacs entered Saturday’s game in the OHL’s Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot, tied with the 9th place Niagara Icedogs with 42 points. Key points for the opposing club as well.

The Hounds would strike first against former teammate Christian Propp, as Joe Carroll would connect on a Jaromir Pytlik pass to put the Hounds up 1-0 on the power play. The other assist would be handed to Rory Kerins.

With less than five minute remaining with Kingston on the man advantage, a blast on net would be tipped in by defenceman Nick King. Jakob Brahaney and Martin Chromiak would tally the assists on the game’s tying goal.

Before the period could end, Ty Kartye would follow up his own rebound after a spectacular set up from Zack Trott to regain the lead for the Greyhounds. 1:40 remaining in the frame and the Hounds would once again be on top

The second period would continue how the first left off, as the rookies would make their mark for the Hounds. Tanner Dickinson would put home the cross crease pass from Jacob Holmes for his ninth of the season. Rob Calisti would pick up the secondary assist.

The special teams would continue to role for the Hounds as Zack Trott would be the second Hound to score on the powerplay with a strong shot that stayed low and under the glove of Propp for the 4-1 lead. Billy Constantinou and Ty Kartye would earn the helpers.

Kingston would manage to tally the next goal, as with under five minutes left, Zayde Wisdom would score after some remarkable pressure by the Frontenacs. His 29th would be once again assisted by both Martin Chromiak and Jakob Brahaney, the second assist of the night for each of them.

Third period scoring would start as the Frontenacs would enjoy the benefits of a Rob Calisti high sticking double minor. Vitali Pinchuk sent an absolute rocket top shelf from Francesco Arucri to cut the lead to just one with 10 minutes remaining.

That would be as close as Kingston would get, as with the net pulled Zack Trott buried the 5-3 goal to close out the game.

The Hounds now have five games remaining to try to earn one of the West’s final playoff spots, and that quest continues as take on Flint at home on Wednesday.
