Bringing the community together

SAULT STE. MARIE: SaultOnline and the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce have teamed together to help support local businesses affected by COVID-19. Short video segments using the hashtag #InThisTogetherSSM, will be posted to SaultOnline and will highlight changes in operations to local businesses. Such as steps being taken to help protect both staff and customers, social distancing practices, and discussion on the new and creative ways in how products/services are being sold and delivered.

“The videos will help personalize the businesses and the people that run them. These businesses are run by your friends, neighbours, your kid’s coaches, and they employ our teenagers, friends, family members and our university students. Once the COVID-19 crisis is over, we want to be able to have our community rally and help these businesses stay in business and keep doing what they do to support our community. We want to convey the message that we are all in this together now and during the aftermath when we have to focus on our recovery,” says Rory Ring, CEO, Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce.

These short video segments will air on ONNtv throughout scheduled programming, as well as published on SaultOnline and across various social media channels. By using the hashtag #InThisTogetherSSM it allows for an overview of the community as a whole. The hope is, by keeping the community informed about what to expect, moving forward, we can all work together to help minimize stress and anxiety during difficult times.

Rory Ring continues, “I think this video project will really help convey the message of togetherness and realize that we need a concerted and focused effort to ensure that our economy rebounds quickly. I think as well, they will be effective in communicating the creativity of our business community and the unique ways in which they have been able to adapt to some very limiting restrictions.”

If your business would like to participate, please email [email protected] or [email protected] or send a message to SaultOnline/ONNtv through Facebook. Local businesses are also encouraged to grab their mobile devices to create their video segments. Simply upload the video to YouTube or any other platform, as unpublished or private and be sure to share with SaultOnline.

“The hashtag really means what it says; we all need to realize that what we do, how we act or isolate has an impact that is felt community-wide. As the Sault Ste. Maire Chamber of Commerce is a member-based organization, we traditionally only provide services to our membership. However, when faced with this pandemic or as in any crisis event, we work for the whole business community and the greater community at large,” continues Ring.

As businesses are encouraged to join #InThisTogetherSSM, we are also asking the community to share any positive stories with us. These stories will be featured on the new Special Report programming airing live Monday – Friday 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
