Statement from Health Sciences North on COVID-19


On March 10th, Health Sciences North was notified by the Public Health Ontario Laboratory of a positive case of COVID-19 in the Sudbury area. On March 7th, a male in his 50s presented himself to the Emergency Department at Health Sciences North (HSN).

Emergency Department staff and physicians followed the infection protection and control practices and patient care processes that have been put in place for managing COVID-19 cases. The patient was flagged through HSN’s enhanced screening measures at the Emergency Department entrance, was given a mask to wear, and taken to a negative pressure room where he was cared for and swabbed. Following testing, the patient was sent home where he remains in self-isolation, following direction from public health.

Symptoms of COVID-19 can range from mild to severe and include fever, cough, and difficulty breathing (shortness of breath).
