The U.S./Canada border has been ordered closed to all non-essential travel by both Canadian and U.S. officials after an announcement this morning.

For the first time ever, both countries have reached a deal to close the shared border as an effort to restrict and combat the spread of the novel coronavirus.

U.S. President Trump tweeted Wednesday morning, “We will be, by mutual consent, temporarily closing our northern border with Canada to non-essential traffic. Trade will not be affected,” more details to follow.

  1. The border will be closed Friday officially. The Us border will be closed to Canadians. The Canadian border will be closed to Americans.

Canadians will always be allowed back into our country – it’s against our constitution orherwise. Canadians will ALWAYS be permitted to return 🙂

  2. Funny…neither the International Bridge site nor Canada Border Services have posted it IS cancelled. Both Trump and Trudeau said soon…not closed immediately. Even CTV and CBC are saying soon. Is there a real source from either customs to confirm this or did Saultonline jump the gun?

  3. Too late…a moron at my work went over Saturday to go to Bay Mills casino and still at work all week! Should be in self quarantine…

  4. what about people trying to get back to Canada who were vacationing in winter homes? will they be allowed to cross?
