There were no injuries reported or any environmental concerns when a freighter hit a pier in the Soo Michigan Locks Sunday morning.
The Army Corps say the Soo Locks were closed for several hours early Sunday when the U.S. freighter Atlantic Huron approached the locks around 3am Sunday.
At that time the vessel experienced a power failure, the captain dropped anchor but it wasn’t enough to avoid hitting the large cement pier on the western part of the lock system.
The freighter suffered minor damage is being towed to the Canadian lock for repairs today. The American lock was re-opened Sunday.
