On July 7, 2020, shortly after 5:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into sexual assault incidents, which occurred between May 2019 and June 30, 2020 in the communities of Johnson Township and the Town of Bruce Mines.
As a result of the investigation, a 38 year old, from Bruce Mines, was charged with:
Five Counts of Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 years of age, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code (CC);
Five Counts of Sexual Interference, contrary to section 151 of the CC; and with
Two Counts of Invitation to Sexual Touching Under 16 years of age, contrary to section 152 of the CC.
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail Court in Blind River on July 10, 2020 and was remanded into custody.
