A Sault Ste. Marie man is facing the unknown fighting a fast growing form of aggressive cancer.

Chris Vanzant was diagnosed with Leukemia on June 25th, 2020. At only 35 years old he now has to face a very fast growing and aggressive form of cancer, Tiffany Vanzant told SaultOnline.com in an email.  Wagner belongs to the Pauline’s Place team and is Chris’s sister.

“Chris was air ambulanced to Sudbury to immediately begin treatment with a team of specialists, and he will be in Sudbury for at least 4 weeks just to start.” Tiffany said.

Local shelter, Pauline’s Place has decided to run “online Garage Sales” via auction pages on Facebook. “all proceeds are going to Chris and his family during this very difficult and unsettling times. I also know that a few other businesses are circulating “money Jars” to support also.” Tiffany said.

“I can’t begin to imagine what Chris is feeling or going through but I can assure you he has a team of supporters who will do anything to help him beat this.” At the lead of that team is his 13 year old daughter, Lucy. ”

Chris has always been an amazing father and role model for Lucy. He is the kind of dad that you can always rely on. They have a strong bond”

“As a single father and sole household income earner, he always does everything he can to help provide his daughter with a laugh and the opportunities to follow her dreams.” Tiffany said.

Wagner is always reaching out to the community for help.  “Chris cannot be worried about the everyday stresses. He will be off work for an unimaginable amount of time, he will need his family and daughter to make frequent trips between Sault Ste Marie and Sudbury to see and support him” Tiffany said, “he will need both emotional and financial support to make it through this.”

Wagner is hoping to raise $20,000 to help Chris and his daughter. Those interested can donate through a gofundme campaign started by family friend Lacy Wagner.

  1. Best of luck to the family. I also lived through this when my husband was diagnosed with leukemia 2 yrs ago. Last year he received stem cell transplant and is doing well.
