SAULT STE. MARIE: On Canada Day the YMCA hosted it’s first virtual event to raise funds towards their Strong Communities Campaign. The YMC’EH Canada Day virtual walk/run 5km had over 50 participants and has so far raised over $4,800. The goal of the campaign is to raise $5,000 and currently the YMCA is just a few dollars away from this goal. In partnering with the Sault Stryders Running Club upon registration for this event, there was a 6 week training course in place to help new runners build up to the 5km mark. Participants were able to sign up individually and by groups. During an interview with Tracey Cooke, CEO, she was overjoyed by the amount of participants and pictures that came flowing in. Individuals are still encouraged to donate if they can. The campaign will close on July 4th.
