UPDATE: Vehicle Collides with Hydro Pole Downtown Causing Power Outage

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is looking to the public for information after a motor vehicle struck a hydro pole in the downtown area Friday evening.  

Police say the collision happened at the corner of Albert Street and East Street at approximately 10:21 pm and involved a single motor vehicle.

Sault Online/ONNtv has received reports from members of the public about a collision in the downtown area of the city which has caused a power outage in parts of downtown.

Shortly before 11pm, in the area of East and Albert Streets witnesses report a vehicle collided with a hydro pole causing a loud bang and the power to go out in many parts of downtown.

City Police and Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services are on scene, and City Board of Works have barricaded and closed off the area.

Story will be updated as more information becomes available. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use caution when approaching the area.
