The Ontario Finnish Resthome Association (OFRA) is confirming a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.

This brings the local case number total to 28 according to Algoma Public Health (APH).

The staff member is self-isolating and those who have been in contact with that individual have been informed.

A release from OFRA states while the risk of exposure for residents and other staff is low, added precautionary measures are being put in place until further test results are known.

All residents in the assisted living section are monitored for symptoms every day while staff are tested regularly for COVID-19.

All staff and visitors are required to wear masks.

APH says it’s not known how this case came about, calling the unknown nature of the case “evidence of ongoing community spread” in and around Sault Ste Marie.
