Sault Ste Marie’s application for provincial money for a twin pad arena has been rejected.
Deputy CAO Tom Vair says the City was among roughly $10 billion worth of applications for the $1 billion of provincial funds up for grabs – and just didn’t make the cut. The City will now have to look at other options.
The aim is for the twin pad arena is to replace the aging McMeeken Centre. It would be located at the Northern Community Centre and would include an NHL sized rink.
A facility like that would drive tourism to the Sault by way of bringing in sporting events and tournaments.
