Algoma COVID-19 Case 31 and F.J. Davey Home Outbreak


Algoma Public Health is confirming the thirty-first case and declaring a COVID-19 outbreak at F.J. Davey Home. The outbreak at the long-term care home started on September 19 and considered active. 

The positive case is self-isolating and tested on September 16.

Important Information:

  • Close contacts have been notified
  • Unknown exposure is evidence of ongoing community spread in Sault Ste. Marie & Area
  •  All Algoma residents must continue to practice physical distancing because any close contact could be a possible exposure
  •  Indoor private gatherings are limited to 10 people or less by law
  •  Masks or face coverings must be worn in all indoor public places in Algoma and they should also be worn in other settings where physical distancing cannot be maintained

F.J. Davey Home Important Information:

  • Individuals with possible close contact exposure at the facility have been notified
  • If you have not been contacted by Algoma Public Health directly, you are not considered a close contact
  • Call Algoma Public Health at 705-759-5404 if you are concerned that you may have been affected

Preventive actions in all long-term care homes:

  • All residents, staff, and essential visitors are screened for symptoms every day, including temperature checks
  • All staff undergo testing for COVID-19 every two weeks
  • Visitor limits are in place, with physical distancing and/or PPE required for all visits
  • All staff and essential visitors wear masks
  • Any resident who develops symptoms is immediately tested for COVID-19
