Algoma District School Board enrolment up 4%

Enrolment is up nearly four percent at the Algoma District School Board.

Trustees heard during their meeting this week that the English public board currently has 6,493 students in K-to-8 and 3,232 secondary students.

Perhaps the biggest figure to celebrate is the rise in students attending alternative secondary programs, such as Algoma Education Connection, which stands at 205 – which is a high number for this time.

Superintendent Joe Maurice says enrolment doesn’t typically hit the 200 mark until Thanksgiving.

The board expects 212 students to participate in alternative secondary programs.
