Farm truck theft

JL Farms

A local business was forced to close after the theft of equipment from their property.

In the early morning of September 16, 2020 someone entered the yard of J & L Farms in Thessalon, Ont. and stole a float truck and damaged another truck on the property.

Lori Thornburg is a co-owner of the business and says not only are they shut down but some of her animals may suffer also.

“In the summer we’ve been trying to get more excavation going which my husband’s been able to do with the trucks we’ve purchased and in the winter we commercially snowplow,” said Thornburg. In the summer the (red plow) truck is used to go get water and feed our cattle.”

The float truck was new to their business and they are having issues with the insurance company replacing it. They said OPP attended the scene fingerprinted the vehicle and left them a report number to followup with. The plow truck was demolished inside however the suspect did leave a credit card and $100 bill in the front seat.

If the plow truck is not repairable Thornburg thinks the community as a whole will suffer.

“Our mechanic thinks the motor may be blown due to all the black smoke in the exhaust. We may have lost the plow truck that I do the school, police station, grocery store, old age home and much more with.”

In an update provided by Thornburg, someone noticed the truck on a buy and sell in Sudbury and it has since been recovered by OPP.
