Motorist Facing Impaired Driving Charges

A 34-year-old man from Atikameksheng First Nation is facing charges following a traffic stop near Espanola.

Officers with the Manitoulin OPP Detachment were on patrol on Highway 6 on the afternoon of September 2nd.

They pulled the suspects vehicle and determined the driver had been drinking.

Officers arrested the driver and took him to the Espanola detachment where the driver is said to have refused a breathalyzer test.

Jason Shawanda is facing a number of charges including impaired driving, refusing to comply with officers’ demands, and driving without a permit.

His license was also suspended for 90 days.
