The Sault Theatre Workshop is holding an evening fundraiser starting this Saturday, September 19.
The public is invited to a drive-in movie event happening in the parking lot of the theatre at 121 Pittsburgh Ave.
They will be playing the Phantom of the Opera and Cyrano de Bergerac.
Sault Theatre Workshop Fundraising Coordinator Leah Frost says they are trying to find ways to fundraise during COVID-19.
“Usually our shows bring in the necessary funds. Due to COVID-19 we also had to shut down. We are exploring other ways to bring in money. We have events, we rent out our space to other groups,” Frost explains in an email to Sault Online. “Depending on how well it goes, we would like to (do more).”
Sault Theatre works to bring traditional theatre to the community. They have done musicals in the past but their focus is on Canadian playwrights. This allows them to do pantomimes, melodramas and plays involving audience participation and cover serious issues. The crew involved in the productions learn how to work with sound, lighting and even can train in being a Director. According to Frost, they want to be a community theatre.
You are encouraged to bring a blanket to the event which starts at 8:30 p.m.
Admission is by donation and refreshments will be made available at a minimal cost.
