One of the founders of the Soo Greyhounds OHL franchise has died.

Angelo Bumbacco, a local hockey fixture for more than 60 years, passed away yesterday at the age of 88.

Bumbacco helped oversee the team’s entry into what was called at the time the Ontario Hockey Association.

During his long career, Bumbacco scouted for the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Bumbacco is a member of the Sault’s Hockey Hall of Fame and chair of the induction committee.
