June 25, 1948 to October 18, 2020 ~ It is with profound sadness, the family of Clara Gallagher announces her sudden passing on October 18, 2020.
With dignity and grace she bravely fought diabetes for over 50 years. Her tenacious spirit and Happy Smile was infectious and inspired many friends to emulate her giving spirit.
Clara was born in Sudbury, Ontario. When Clara was approximately seven years old the family moved to Sault Ste. Marie where she was a graduate of the Sault College. As a single mom, Clara worked several years at the Sault Ste. Marie police department. From the Sault she moved to Edmonton, Alberta where she met and married Robin Hornby. Robin and Clara moved to Melbourne, Australia living there for 4 years. After returning to Canada Robin worked in Calgary, Alberta. After their divorce Clara eventually made Penticton and then Kelowna, B.C. her permanent residence.
Clara was an avid Quilter and pleased many family and friends with beautiful quilts that are treasured memories from her.
Her son John, she would say was her greatest achievement. Her Granddaughter Rynn was the apple of her grandma’s eye.
She is survived by her son John Gallagher/Kjersten Saude and Granddaughter Rynn Gallagher of Vancouver, B.C. sisters Jeri /Bruce Pearce and Susan McNaughton of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and Judy /Larry Glazier of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan as well as a brother Sam Gallagher and his wife Donna of Edmonton, Alberta and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her mother Laurel Ambrose and father John Johnston Gallagher.
She will be greatly missed by her family, best friend Norma Frie of White Rock, B.C. and many friends in Kelowna as well as Calgary and Sault Ste. Marie.
