On November 2, 2020, at approximately 2:10 p.m., members of the Anishinabek Police Service, Garden River Detachment attempted to arrest a local Band Member on several outstanding arrest warrants.  This male, in his personal vehicle at the time, drove away from police starting a police pursuit within the community of Garden River First Nation.  A police pursuit was initiated along Highway 17B continuing westbound towards Sault Ste. Marie.

The suspect vehicle veered off the Highway onto a gravel path along the train tracks, continuing westbound.  The vehicle continued down this path, through the thick bush, ultimately coming to a dead-end.  The suspect and a passenger fled the vehicle, through the bush, across Highway 17B and into the bushes around Bell St.

With the assistance of the Sault Ste. Marie OPP and the Batchewana Police Service, the area was cordoned off.  After a search of the bush area, the suspect, Myron Jones (34) was arrested.  His passenger, Misty Duplantie (28), had surrendered prior to police locating Jones.

Duplantie was charged for Obstruction and released on an Undertaking.

Jones was charged with Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation and Possession of fentanyl (CDSA) amongst others.  Jones was held for bail.
