For the next 10 months, Goulais Bay Fire will be holding a 50/50 draw.

Tickets are available through the FB page, website and on-site at the Timberland General Store on Highway 17 on Saturdays and Sundays.

“The 50/50 is a fundraising event that we started about three months ago,” said Kris Rooley the deputy fire chief in Goulais.  “We are using it to buy apparatus for the fire department such as vehicles, fire equipment, fire gear, tools and expansion to the fire hall.”

They were also taking donations of canned goods and toys for Christmas Cheer.

The fire department also had a safety message for community members about their chimneys.

“The season is coming now where everyone is turning on their stoves and it’s really important to clean your Chimney,” said Rooley. “We respond to a lot of calls each year where there is chimney fires. Chimney fires can quickly turn into house fires.”

He said you can borrow a chimney cleaning kit from the General Store.

Draws are made on the last day of the month and the numbers are posted on their Facebook page and website.
