Letter to the Editor: Forest Ontario CEO responds

Tree Planting

Dear Editor,

I read with interest No budget yet for Liberals’ promise of 2 billion trees by 2030 in Sault Online on November 2nd. Your readers might like to know that, in 2020, Forests Ontario planted more than 2 million trees with funding from the Government of Canada, despite COVID-19.

Forests Ontario’s 50 Million Tree Program (50 MTP) started planting seedlings in 2007. In 2019, the program was cancelled by Ontario’s government. The climate-friendly 50 MTP was then quickly adopted by the liberal government, ensuring the continuance of this very successful tree planting initiative.

Forests Ontario supports the pending 2 Billion Tree Program and, in the meantime, the 50 MTP is open for business. We invite all Ontarians with room to plant 500 or more trees on their land to contact us.
