SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – On November 23, 2020 officers with Patrol Services arrested 55-year-old Rene Quenel for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
At 8:44 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Blucher Street and Albert Street East. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers observed four people in the vehicle, the accused was in the rear of the vehicle.
Upon speaking with the occupants, officers developed grounds to believe there may be a firearm in the vehicle. All four occupants were removed from the vehicle for safety reasons. Officers observed what was believed to be a controlled substance, and all parties were detained.
A subsequent search of the area of arrest located a replica firearm in the vehicle and found the accused to be in possession of approximately 22.7 grams of what is believed to be fentanyl.
He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and breach of probation. The other three occupants were released unconditionally.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on January 4, 2021.
