Windsor, Ont., elementary school sends staff, students home due to COVID-19 outbreak

A school in Windsor, Ont., has been closed and students and staff are being asked to isolate for 14 days due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit declared the outbreak after three confirmed cases were linked to Frank W. Begley Elementary.

It says the infectious period was Nov. 12 and the entire school is now considered high-risk for exposure to COVID-19.

Medical officer of health Dr. Wajid Ahmed says three staff members tested positive and transmission is suspected to have happened at the school.

The school community has been dismissed and the health unit is asking people to isolate for 14 days.

A letter to parents from the health unit says children are encouraged to get tested for COVID-19 from five to seven days after the exposure.
