A Coronal Mass Ejection is hurtling towards earth since leaving the Sun on December 7, 2020.
This has forced NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center to issue a Geomagnetic Storm Watch.
Skywatchers may be able to see a glimpse of the northern lights from tonight through December 11 as the energy hits our atmosphere.
It’s expected to peak between 10 p.m. tonight and 1 a.m. tomorrow morning. The KP index is used by NOAA to determine the strength of the storm. At its peak tonight it will be at a 7.
The map below provided by NOAA shows how that relates to how far south you may be able to see the lights. If you get any photo’s feel free to share with us here at [email protected]
