A National Guard F-16 has gone down in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The crash occurred December 8 at around 8 p.m. according to the 115th Fighter Wing. The 115th is a unit under the Wisconsin Air National Guard. It currently calls Truax Field Air National Guard Base near Madison, Wisconsin home.
The status of the pilot is currently unknown as of the morning of December 9.
An ongoing co-ordinated search effort with the unit, U.S. Coast Guard, and emergency services continues for the pilot. The crash site has been secured by military personnel from the 115th after originally being held by Delta County, Michigan emergency services.
“We are a close-knit family and when an incident like this occurs, every member in our organization feels it.”, said Col. Bart Van Roo, 115th Fighter Wing commander. “The safety of our pilot along with search and rescue efforts are our top priority, and we will continue to pray for the pilot’s safe return.”
