Sometimes good things happen after a tragedy. This is the case after yesterday’s fire on Albert Street.

Saultonline.com has been in touch with one of the victims of the fire. We are choosing to keep his identity anonymous at this time.

He reports that, unfortunately, one of his cats, Biggs made it through the fire but unfortunately Satin, his other cat perished. He is thankful for the community support after the fire.

Sault Ste. Marie Helping Hands (SSMHH) was a huge help in getting him the stuff he needs to get back on his feet.

Wendy Gutcher operates SSMHH and says she can relate to the victim.

” I’ve been a victim, you know, as a small kid or house blew up. You know, I mean, my father and my five sisters were all homeless,” said Gutcher. “So I understand, plus 25 years ago, me and my three kids were homeless again due to a fire.”

SSMHH has provided many of the daily items he will need.

“A dresser, kitchen items, microwave, pots and pans, dishes ~ you know ~ miscellaneous items,” said Gutcher. “Whatever he needed basically ~ the only thing he needs right now, is a TV, couch, chair and a double bed.”

The victim is doing as well as can be expected as of the last time we were in contact. Stay with Saultonline.com for more information as it becomes available.
