Dan MacKenzie provided a status update on the CHL and all three participating leagues.

He appeared during the broadcast of the IIHF World Junior Hockey Tournament medal round games.

He says he looks forward to the QMJHL starting back up on January 22, 2021. They have worked really hard with Quebec health officials on a safe return to play. He also said the OHL and WHL are doing the same.

“That’s really what the OHL and WHL are doing, working with provincial officials on plans that are going to allow for our players and teams to get back on the ice safely.” said MacKenzie.

“We are committed to playing the season and providing opportunities for the players in the O and the WHL to continue to develop even if the format doesn’t necessarily look traditional.”

Safety is key for the CHL and that is what they will be focusing on going forward.

The Memorial Cup is scheduled for to start June 17, 2021 in either Oshawa or here in the Soo.
