Coast Guard Station Sault to conduct ice rescue/safety demonstration

With the lock-down in place, it is beneficial to our overall health to get outside and take in some fresh air. Although that air is a bit cold, the scenery at Dan’s Resort in Pickford, MI will be exciting, educational and entertaining this weekend.

At 10 AM on Saturday, January 16th, Station Sault Sainte Marie will be conducting an Ice Rescue demonstration. Residents are invited to observe the demonstration and staff will be on site to answer questions.

Explanations and demonstrations that will be conducted include:

  • Techniques for Transiting on Ice
  • Self Help Rescue Technique
  • Reach Technique
  • Go Technique Using Cold Water Sling
  • Shuttle Victim Retrieval and
  • Retrieval for a Conscious Responsive/Unconscious Responsive Victim.

Keeping with COVID-19 guidelines, a limited number of people will be permitted in person to attend. However, photos and video will be posted to the website.

If you have any specific questions on what will be demonstrated, please contact Station Sault Ste. Marie at 906-635-3272 between 8 AM and 4 PM.
