HART, Alice Mary

Peacefully on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Ontario Finnish Resthome, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, at the age of 96, with her devoted granddaughter by her side.

Beloved wife of the late Russell Weir Hart (1997). Mother of Gay Kelly (Wayne), late Cheryl Stuebing (late Chuck), Nancy McLea (Robert) and Paul Hart (Jenny). Survived by her sister-in-law Barbara Lindsay of Sudbury, Phyllis Nye of Amherstburg and Gladys Hoefer of San Francisco, California. Grandma will be missed by eleven grandchildren, Jamie, Kristi, Mark, Michael, Chris, Sherri, Christopher, Shawn, Victoria, Bailey and Benton. Sadly missed by her many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Alice was born in Longueuil, Quebec. She is predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Edward Burke, her in-laws, Philip and Olive Hart as well as her siblings. During the early part of WWII Russell was stationed with the Royal Canadian Navy in Halifax and he and Alice met while his ship was in Montreal, Quebec. They resided many years in Amherstburg and then Sault Ste. Marie and returned to Amherstburg in 1990 to enjoy their retirement. Alice loved her family and never hesitated to help each and every one of them. She enjoyed many activities and was active with her church and community in Amherstburg. She loved reading as one of her many past-times. We could never count the number of books she read and she continued to read well into her late 90’s. She was a very competitive bingo player and especially loved to win a prize. She enjoyed all music, especially the Beatles, and was often humming and singing. She left this world listening to some of her favourite music.

The family would like to thank the staff of Mauno Kaihla Koti (MKK) for their many years of care and kindness to Alice. She was always well dressed and wearing her favourite jewelry.

There will be no funeral service at this time. Internment at Rose Hill Cemetery in Amherstburg, Ontario at a future date where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband.

Memorial donations payable by cheque or online to the Ontario Finnish Resthome would be appreciated by the family.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522). Please visit the Arthur Funeral Home website obituaries to leave a message of condolence for the family.
