In a story which was published in error on SaultOnline earlier this afternoon before being removed from both the website and social media, it was reported that sources had identified new positive cases of COVID-19 at the F.J. Davey home over the past three days. SaultOnline had reached out to the Algoma Public Health and had been awaiting confirmation prior to the publishing error.
A short time later, we spoke with the Algoma Public Health who confirmed that they are currently unaware of any such cases at this time. APH policies require that only after contacts and family members have been notified, will a media release be issued to advise both media outlets and the community. In addition, if there is single confirmed positive case at a long-term care facility, it would most likely be reported as an outbreak at which time APH would work closely with the LTC facility to ensure both staff and resident safety.
Algoma Public Health is required to follow up on reports of suspected and/or confirmed outbreaks of enteric and respiratory illnesses like COVID-19 in retirement, long-term care homes, hospital and other institutions covered under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
