It took a little while to get done, but the deal over IIHF World Juniors gold medal game between two local mayors, is complete.
When Canada was set up to play the USA for gold, I had an idea which I thought both Mayors would get in on.
In approaching Mayor Don Gerry of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan I asked if he would be willing to get on board. He said he would wear a Greyhounds jersey if Canada won the gold medal game. In return he asked that Provenzano wear a LSSU Lakers jersey if they lost.
A quick e-mail to Provenzano’s office and the bet was on.
Canada lost the game 2-0 and a LSSU Lakers jersey was acquired by the Canadian side.
During tonight’s council meeting Provenzano acknowledged the loss and said he wouldn’t do it again… we hope that was a joke!
“I guess I have the play of the US junior team to blame for this along with Dan Gray at Saultonline…in this case with the United States winning I had to wear Lake Superior State jersey to our council meeting, so here we are, I’m wearing it.” said Provenzano. “Dan I’m going to ignore all of your social media treaties where you’re trying to get me to bet on things in the future.”
In a time of hardship for both city’s we here at SaultOnline would like to thank both Gerry and Provenzano for bringing a little bit of levity to an international competition.
