Community near Belleville, Ont., told to shelter in place after OPP officer stabbed


A community near Belleville, Ont., is being told to shelter in place as police search for a man they say stabbed an officer overnight.

Ontario Provincial Police say it happened in Foxboro just before 1 a.m. this morning.

Spokesman Bill Dickson says the officer tried to stop a vehicle, which then collided with the OPP cruiser.

He says both people got out of their vehicles and the officer was stabbed. The officer is now is hospital being treated for his injuries.

Dickson says the suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Charles “Chuck” Parkinson, and is sought on an attempted murder change.

He says Parkinson should be considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached.
