TORONTO — Ontario is expected to provide an update on its COVID-19 vaccine rollout today.
Retired Gen. Rick Hillier, the head of the province’s vaccine task force, will hold a news conference with Premier Doug Ford and other officials this afternoon.
The update is expected to include a revised timeline for immunizations following federal approval of more vaccines and a panel’s recommendation that the time between doses can be extended up to four months.
Ontario’s health minister has said increased supply and more time between doses will speed up vaccinations to the general public.
Vaccinations in Ontario initially focused on long-term care residents, staff and select health-care workers.
Some health units have recently moved ahead with vaccinations among the oldest seniors in the general population and other groups vulnerable to the virus, like those experiencing homelessness.
